Welcome to the Commonwealth Elections
Commission of Puerto Rico Information Network
As set forth by the Puerto Rico Electoral Law,
one of the duties of the Chairman of the Commonwealth Elections Commission
is educating and informing the Puerto Rican elector and the political parties
with regard to their rights and obligations, for which purpose he may use
all available communications media and public information techniques.
To that end, we have developed this Information Network on the Internet -
the most advanced communications medium conceived by mankind to this day
- with the purpose of not just fulfilling our commitment towards the people
of Puerto Rico, but also contribute to the knowledge of the entire world
about our Island's electoral procedures.
We have available here the results of electoral
events held since 1932 - the year in which Puerto Rican women exercised
their right to vote for the first time - as well as the
laws and bylaws which implement the electoral
process.
The electoral process plays a role of great relevance in Puerto Rico, inasmuch
as it constitutes the fundamental basis of a public life firmly rooted in
the democratic ways. As part of the vision, goals, strategies and tactics
we are implementing to be an electoral vanguard model organ, we will continue
to expand the information available here about our electoral procedures. |
